I know this is a legitimate thing that the state has going, but I want to make sure I am being extra careful because in the steps to reclaiming I need to submit Social Security number, current address, daytime phone and such. But now, with a new website that makes searching the 2.4 billion in unclaimed money in Massachusetts easier, and after partnering with a national association of state treasurers on a collective website, the number of claims is overwhelming the 12-person workforce. I received a letter today from the state treasury stating that "XXX-bank" has submitted unclaimed property in my name to them, and that I should either call them or go to the website to claim it. Massachusetts through it's state treasury department has a thing where all unclaim property/money is sent to if it is basically abandoned/forgotten about.
